Me: “If the bus is scheduled to leave at 12:57 then it ought to leave at 12:57, NOT at 12:55..”
K: “We should have left 2 minutes earlier, then we’d’ve caught it.”
Me: “No, we were there at 12:56, that’s early. The bus should leave when it’s supposed to!”
K: “But you can’t rely on should. Sometimes they leave early. That’s the way it’s always been.”
ARGH.
I give up.
Even 13 year old boys here have been programmed to be ΓΌber punctual and think it normal.
What’s the point of having timetables if you don’t stick to them?? If everyone knows they leave earlier than planned, why not just change the plan?
I think busses which leave early are worse than busses that run late.
Either way, you’re late to work. π
I am also guilty of being uber punctual…show up for everything about 15 minutes early. Don’t know why really — it’s just my thing. π
I’ve not yet worked out what this word ‘punctual’ means. It’s certainly got nothing to do with me.
It wouldn’t have much to do with me either if I was left to my own devices – the thing is, I live in a country where punctuality is practically the most important thing about a person…. It’s difficult to convince them that other things are more useful/pleasurable/whatever π
